Should I hire a makeup artist for my wedding?

Congratulations on your engagement!  Now that you have started your planning process, you may be wondering if hiring a makeup artist is even necessary.
Working in a retail environment for many years, I have come across many brides who come into a department store and request an artist teach them how to apply their makeup and just buy what they need.  In all honesty, most brides will spend more money on purchasing makeup, when they could have hired a professional to come out and do it for them.

When you do decide to hire a makeup artist, the process of finding the right one for you is important as well.  Anyone can apply makeup and call themselves a makeup artist.

Here are some things to look for in selecting your makeup artist.

How long have they been working as a makeup artist?
What experience do they have in bridal makeup?

Do they have a portfolio? If they do look at the makeup application. Are the colors soft and well blended? Does it look shiny or washed out?

What type of makeup do they use? This is really important in how the makeup will transition in photographs.

Schedule a consultation with your artist before the wedding.  This will give you an idea of your artist's style.  Every artist is different. There will usually be a rate for the artists time.

Wedding day rates will vary depending on the artists experience and demand.

Hope this helps you in your search.
I network with many artists in other states. If you need assistance finding one in MA, CA, HI please let me know! Thank you!  Yvette
